I just picked up my issue of Quilts Japan #116. I haven't tried this service, but interesting that you can have a subscription with them.
Although this issue has some white work on the cover, and is so bride bride bridey looking, the innerds are pretty meaty.
Some awesome wedding rings, awesome white work...and one of my personal favorites, a ton of Hawaiian quilting. You know I'm an applique freak, so that really tickles me. Almost makes we want to take another trip to the islands just for quilting!
Japanese quilters love the Hawaiian style, and often use these sort of tie dye fabrics that are center-weighted, and radiate colors out from the middle. It's very pretty stuff, but I'm not sure I've found a source for it here in the states.
I think Lunn fabrics has a center weighted fabric... (I have seen it at my LQS.) http://www.seminolesampler.com/
ReplyDeleteI just discoverd your blog! I also bought Cotton Time, a japanese magazine you may have seen, and it is full of tote bags and cute coin purses, as well as quilts. I have not had time yet to make anything out of the mag, but I intend too! Do you read japanese? Or do you just wing it with the patterns. I'm a bit nervous to get started.
ReplyDeleteI see that http://www.borntoquilt.com offers a joint subscription for PQT and Quilts Japan. Price seems reasonable too. I enjoy your blog!
ReplyDeleteHello! Thanks for stopping by my blog and leaving your kind comment. It's a delight to discover your blog -- your work is absolutely amazing! And I felt an instant kinship, what with my own salt and pepper collection and fondness of Japonaise....
ReplyDeleteI don't read Japanese, so that's part of the fun of getting the books, and sorting through the directions. If I get up against a brick wall, my highschool girlfriend reads it pretty well so I could lean on her if it gets really challenging.
ReplyDeleteIt is so beautiful the apple quilt you sent to Wee Wonderful, so I decided to check your blog. I enjoyed it very much! I like the way you write and the pictures you take.
